The old tart looks good all dressed up...

Yes, that's a sneaky way of saying, this isn't exactly a new recipe of mine.. just dressed up a little bit better!












Fashion Night Out with Lady Warfield and Lady Victoria

Last night was a scene! So much going on, so many things to do, so many invites.. where to go? Well these two ladies; glamourous mommies out on the town, only have so much time.

First stop, home town. Atlantic Boulevard, Brooklyn.

We met up at Consignment, where we both immediately consumed two glasses of champagne (they were small) and made some stellar purchases. I found a Stella McCartney shirt and a VINCE dress. Elegant... and black. After much happiness and photos, we ran off to catch the C to Canal, where we quickly navigated the cobble streets to Kate Spade.

Reminiscing 80's high-school fashion during fashion week..

Ah... just sitting here after the storm swept through.... relaxing. I just put the kids to bed, and am merrily drinking a glass of red wine, while in the background the radio plays. Eventually I pay attention because a particular song brings me out of my semi-consious state. What we do. By DEVO. Ah DEVO. It's a nice way to switch pace from the manic day to frame my evening plans.

Which really only involves more wine, a bit of writing, and possibly a movie.

So I've just been having fun going through photos from fashion week, and laughing at some of the "trends". Loads that look familiar.

I went to a very good public school in Northern Virginia. And the trend there, was either Jock, Preppy or pot head/grit/stoner. But there was a handful... really just a mere handful of few pioneers boldly testing the conservative climate with the soon to a rage New Wave trend. Some brave souls veering towards punk. But they (we) wouldn't really go full steam punk until…

Your such a cheesecake!!

No really. You are. So you need to make this... but pay special care for the instructions.. or it will come out a bit too hard on the edges of the crust!

MY PROCESS:



THE RECIPE (adapted from Smitten Kitchen) Please note, that if you want the full directions I used, go to that link. I'm not copying down her experience, just the basics. But you would do best by reading it. This is, well, a complicated recipe, to say the least

Crumb crust
8 ounces (15 4 3/4 x 2 1/2-inch sheets of graham cracker; yes, I am crazy enough to both count and measure) finely ground graham crackers or cookies such as chocolate or vanilla wafers
8 tablespoons (1 stick or 4 ounces or 113 grams) unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Very tall cheesecake filling:
5 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened (Philadelphia is recommended for cheesecakes but if you’ve had success with other brands, feel free to use them again)
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon z…

Fortune smiles pretty on those who look silly

Saturday was fantastic at the Brooklyn Flea Market in Fort Greene! The market is outdoors every Saturday, 10am-5pm, rain or shine. And it moves indoors on Sundays at One Hanson/Williamsburg Savings Bank.




So first thing up (which really wasn't early), Dean and I hooked up with Lady Victoria and Prince Charlie, and off we went to the flea, where we met up with Miss Rikke and the charming as always, FLorence and Dea.







I found an amazing pair of Juicy boots at a stand run by Constant. Can't belive they fit me like a glove! Go to Constant's website at nenenn155.com, where he profiles his customers purchases.

Afterwards, it was time to get something to eat, so walked through Fort Green to Dino's a yummy italian place, and relaxed with a bloody mary.

And now on to scene 24. A smashing scene with some lovely acting...

It's only safe to say, these girls have super kick ass style. And they know it! That's because us mommies sit around and say really dipping things with a special glass of Brandy and Chartreuse clutched in one hand, a long leg crossed over the other leg, dangling sort of elegantly, yet not, and the other hand steadying an iPhone while directing the young girls to pose for the "spontaneous" shot...

"No, no, no... smile! Ok, yes, ok.. that's right. Much better. Gorgeous. Wow, where did you get that jumpsuit? Did mummy buy it for you? JCrew? Shit.. oops. I mean, shoot. Didn't they have one in my size? You girls never think of me. Where's my goody bag? You just wait. You'll see... Ok. perfect... now run along"
Chair falls over... mommy lays there with drink spilled. Calling after little darlings...

"Dears would you be so kind and grab Lady Warfield another?"

It's a Very Berry Blast of a Beautiful Labor Day Weekend!

Super Yummy event last night! More details later. For the moment, just sharing another new Berry flavored dish.

The Raspberry Crumb Bar



Superbly easy to make, and yummy for all.  I did another one replacing the raspberry's with blueberries.   And as you can see, I had a few extra boysenberries so I tossed them in for color.
Try it out, and tell me what you think:
Raspberry Crumb Bars
Ingredients:
1½ cups sugar, divided
1 tsp. baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
¼ tsp. salt
Zest of 1 lemon
16 tbsp. cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 large egg
4 cups fresh raspberries
4 tsp. cornstarch
Juice of 1 lemon  Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375° F.  Grease a 9 x 13" pan; set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of the sugar, the baking powder and flour.  Mix in the salt and the lemon zest, and stir together with a fork.  Cut in the butter and egg with a pastry blender until the largest chunks are about pea-sized.  The mixture should be crumbly without much loose flour.  Spre…
