Now Available on Audiobook!
It’s official! The Audiobook for “Pocket of Pain: From Ballet Shoes to Combat Boots!”, narrated by yours truly, Suzanne Warfield has launched! Hurrah!
What a true labor of love this project has been. I first started writing the book back in 2010, but after just three chapters, life pulled me away from it for a decade. In 2020, I finally returned to the manuscript in earnest and completed it in 2022.
After finishing, I chose to invest in myself — working with a professional development editor, “Jen Knox”, a copy editor, and Book ARCs. I took this route after an unsuccessful attempt to find an agent or traditional publisher. It’s disheartening that so many publishers shy away from memoirs by “unknown” authors. Non-famous people have powerful, fascinating stories too — sometimes even more so than celebrities. I’m not saying mine is extraordinary, but I know Pocket of Pain speaks to a lot of people, and I often wonder how it might have reached a larger audience with the right support.
Without the publicity machine or deep pockets, it’s hard to reach far — and to be honest, I’m exhausted and financially tapped out. Still, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished.
I self-published the paperback in 2023, and just this month, I completed the audiobook. To celebrate, I also released a Special Edition Hardcover, and the paperback has been updated with the latest revisions.
If you’d like to support me, please read or listen to my book — and if you feel moved, leave an honest review. This greatly helps the book circulate in those algorithms on Audible and Amazon. Even just clicking stars.
It’s been a long, emotional journey — but today, it feels complete.
Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey!
